Ashton McGowan, age 27, of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died on  December 21, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with substance use disorder. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for all who knew him.

Born on May 13, 1996, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Bo and Mayme McGowan, Ashton was a son, brother, grandson, father, and friend. He was smart, handsome, and charming, qualities that drew people to him and created lasting bonds throughout his life. Ashton was a devoted father who adored his two children and found joy in playing basketball and video games with them. A dedicated fan of the Memphis Grizzlies, Ashton’s passion for sports was just one of the many facets of his vibrant personality.

Ashton’s struggle with substance use began in his senior year of high school, marking the start of a decade-long battle that took him through the highs and lows of rehab, sober houses, and even jail. Despite the relentless challenges he faced, Ashton never lost his capacity to connect with others. Along the way, he met many incredible people fighting similar battles and forged strong relationships with them. These friendships were a testament to his resilience and his ability to see the good in others, even as he faced his own struggles.

Ashton’s life, though marked by hardship, was also filled with love, laughter, and moments of triumph. His family and friends remember him not for the battle he fought, but for the light he brought into their lives—the devoted father who loved his children more than anything, the son who was deeply loved, and the friend whose warmth and kindness will never be forgotten.

Ashton’s departure has left many broken hearts, but his spirit will live on in the memories of those who loved him. His story is a reminder of the human cost of addiction and the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for those who are struggling. Though his battle has ended, Ashton’s memory will continue to inspire others to fight for recovery and to hold on to hope.
