Jacob Conner Hammaker

26-years-old

He was kind, funny, and always wanted to help others

Hometown: Boise, ID
Birthplace: Boise, ID

Jacob “Jake” Conner Hammaker was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him—gentle, kind-hearted, and full of life. Born in Boise, Idaho, Jake was the beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence brought joy and laughter to his family and community.

A gifted student, Jake graduated with honors from Timberline High School in 2012 and later earned a biology degree from Boise State University in 2019. He was pursuing his dream of becoming a homeopathic doctor, preparing for medical boards and graduate school, driven by a deep desire to help others.

Jake was known for his infectious humor, offbeat wisdom, and love of nature. Whether hiking under the sun, sharing quirky health advice, or spending cherished moments with his nieces and nephew, Jake lived with curiosity, compassion, and warmth. His gentle spirit and the silly joy he brought to everyday life are remembered with love and heartache.

On April 6, 2020, Jake’s life was tragically cut short by an accidental heroin overdose. His family had no idea he was struggling. The shock of his loss is still deeply felt, especially by his mother, who describes him as her sweet, silly boy with a soul too good for this world. She misses him every second of every day.

Jake’s story is a painful reminder that substance use disorder can hide in plain sight. In honoring his memory, we strive to bring awareness, end stigma, and ensure that others don’t suffer in silence.

Jake was deeply loved. And he is profoundly missed.
