“When we lose a spouse, we are widowed. When we lose our parents, we are orphaned. But when we lose a child, there isn’t a word for us because it’s not supposed to happen.” These were the words of Logan’s mother, as she faced her greatest fear, losing another child. Having already lost her young son, Michael, to cancer in 1994, that fear tragically became a reality once more on December 14, 2023, when she lost her beloved son Logan to fentanyl poisoning.

For Logan’s mother, one of the most heartbreaking aspects of his passing was that he never truly understood how remarkable he was. Logan was special in every way—beautiful inside and out, intelligent, and deeply loved. He could have made a tremendous difference in the world, possessing a unique charisma that touched everyone he met. Many were captivated by his presence, inspired by his spirit, and drawn to his humility. With his humor, kindness, infectious smile and laughter, Logan had the gift of lighting up any room he entered. To know Logan was to love him, and his mother feels his absence profoundly with each passing day.

They shared a close bond filled with car rides, heartfelt conversations, fashion advice, warm hugs, and above all, his incredible, unwavering love. As life moves forward around her, Logan’s mother finds herself anchored in the past, present, and future of this profound loss. Logan’s life was filled with struggle; he faced a bipolar diagnosis at 17 and wrestled with addiction in his attempt to self-medicate. Despite his suffering, Logan brought immense love and impact to those around him—a light that now leaves a lasting void.

His mother finds a measure of comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain. Yet, the question remains: how does one repay the boundless love he gave in his time here? She is forever grateful for the gift of being his mother, an honor unmatched by any other.
