Brett Stroud, 37, of Huron, South Dakota, passed away unexpectedly on September 29, 2023, at his home. Born on March 28, 1986, in Madison, South Dakota, to Chuck and Kim Stroud, Brett brought joy and love to his family and all who knew him. His life, though marked by struggles, was also filled with passion, kindness, and a deep love for those around him.

Brett spent much of his childhood in Madison before relocating with his family to Sioux Falls in 2001, where he attended Lincoln High School. In 2016, Brett moved to Huron, South Dakota, where he found a sense of community and fulfillment working at Coborn’s Grocery Store.

Brett was known for his unwavering love of sports. An avid Minnesota Vikings fan, he could often be found cheering for his favorite team with enthusiasm and hope, no matter the outcome. He also enjoyed the thrill and excitement of professional wrestling, a pastime that brought him happiness and connection with others who shared his passion.

Family was everything to Brett. He was deeply devoted to those he loved, and he made sure they knew it. His warm heart and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and his memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration.

Brett’s journey with substance use was a difficult one. Believing that methadone would be the key to his recovery, he was determined to turn his life around. Unfortunately, his family believes that he was improperly prescribed methadone and took too much of it. This tragic oversight took away a beloved son, brother, and friend too soon.

Brett’s story is a reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by those struggling with substance use disorder. Despite the hope and determination he held for a better future, he became another heartbreaking statistic in the opioid crisis. His family and friends will remember him not for the battle he lost, but for the love, laughter, and joy he brought into their lives.
